Chanel Skirt Suit, 1996
After four decades at Chanel, Lagerfeld earned a legacy as a creative force that reinvigorated the heritage label, infusing it with postmodern playfulness while honoring its roots. Equally versed in the languages of popular culture and the craft and traditions of couture, a combination described as ‘high fashion and high camp’, Lagerfeld’s reinvention of the brand and marketing savvy created a voracious appetite among young buyers, sealing the fate of the iconic double CC logo into this century’s visual lexicon.
Orange sorbet wool blend jacket with a fold-own collar, long sleeves, two pockets on the front, and a center front silver-tone button closure. The buttons alternate in design with one featuring the CC logo and the words "Chanel 31 rue Cambon Paris", while the second features the bust of Coco Chanel and the words "Paris France". The jacket is lined with orange silk woven with the CC logo and finished with a silver-tone chain on the interior hem. The skirt is cut without a waistband and closes down the center back with a zip. The skirt is lined with the same silk as the jacket and the center back hem features a kick-pleat that is finished with three silver-tone buttons.
